Support Mother’s Who Have Lost or Injured Children #MuffinsforMidwives

We’re excited to support Maternity Worldwide, a charity dedicated to reducing the number of women and babies dying or injured in pregnancy and childbirth by training midwives and skilled birth attendants in low income countries. They improve access to health centres and hospitals, providing communities with maternal and newborn health information and empowering women to become financially independent and decision makers about their own sexual and reproductive health. Maternity Worldwide’s has a vision of a world where all women, wherever they live, can give birth safely and without fear.

Having a baby should be a time of great joy and hope. But every year across the world 287,000 women die in pregnancy and childbirth. That’s one mother dying every 2 minutes, 800 each day. These women do not need to suffer and die; most lives could be saved relatively easily and cheaply. You can read more here about the case studies to find out how Maternity Worldwide has helped mothers.
They are celebrating International Day of the Midwife on 05 May 2019 by asking people to get baking for safe births, as part of the annual Muffins For Midwives campaign.
Every year, Maternity Worldwide encourages supporters to host a cake sale, coffee morning or tea party during the month of May. All the money raised then goes towards training and employing midwives to ensure women in sub-Saharan Africa have the care they need.
Every day across the world 800 women die in pregnancy or childbirth. Each one of these deaths is a tragedy which has a devastating effect on the family and sadly, many young children also die following the death of their mother. Most of these lives could be saved by relatively simple, inexpensive measures. One of the ways that Maternity Worldwide works to save lives in childbirth is by training and employing midwives so they are able to provide safe births for mothers now and for the future.
Over the past six years, Maternity Worldwide’s Muffins For Midwives campaign has raised an incredible £35,000, enough money to fund the full training of five student midwives. Two of these midwives have now graduated and are working in their local community.
On average it costs just £15 to provide a safe birth for a mother at a health centre or hospital, so get your buns in the oven!
